\ \=//   BOOZE   \ \=//

(Barley corn - Spirits - Wine etc)

Should there be such a thing as sipping saints?

Interesting question.

Leviticus 10:8-10

8 Then the LORD said to Aaron,

9 "You and your sons are not to drink wine or other fermented drink whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will die. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.

10 You must distinguish between the holy and the common, between the unclean and the clean, (NIV)

If it isnít clean then it is the opposite unclean.

Proverbs 23:29-35

29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?

30 Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.

31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly!

32 In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.

33 Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind imagine confusing things.

34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging.

35 "They hit me," you will say, "but I'm not hurt! They beat me, but I don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?" (NIV)

Many will say the bible is talking about grape juice.  Take a look verses 31 & 32 in the King James version.

Proverbs 23:31   Look not thou upon the wine  when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. (KJV)

Next verse

Proverbs 23:32   At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. (KJV)

- ><> - ><> - --- --- - <>< - <>< -

When it moveth - it biteth and stingeth

Does Grape Juice biteth and stingeth oh really give me a break.

If you are a believer you are called to spread the good news, the gospel.

Be instant in season and out of season.

2 Timothy 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season;  (KJV)

So again, does this apply to you as a Christian?

If you are a believer you are called to preach (the good news) the gospel, the word. Be instant in season and out of season.

Does it make a difference if you are in church or outside of church?

If you are not to drink wine before going to church and you are a New Testament believer and you are called to deliver the good news (the gospel) in church or outside of church should wine be any part of your menu?

God's word also states:

Romans 14:21 Don't eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another Christian to stumble. (NLT)

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10 nor thieves nor the greedy
nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. (NIV)

Other things said in God's word about booze

Proverbs 21:17 He who loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and oil will never be rich. (NIV)

Proverbs 20:1 Wine produces mockers; liquor leads to brawls. Whoever is led astray by drink cannot be wise. (NLT)

Proverbs 23:29-35

29        Who has anguish? Who has sorrow? Who is always fighting? Who is always complaining? Who has unnecessary bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?

30        It is the one who spends long hours in the taverns, trying out new drinks.

31        Don't let the sparkle and smooth taste of wine deceive you.

32        For in the end it bites like a poisonous serpent; it stings like a viper.

33        You will see hallucinations, and you will say crazy things.

34        You will stagger like a sailor tossed at sea, clinging to a swaying mast.

35        And you will say, "They hit me, but I didn't feel it. I didn't even know it when they beat me up. When will I wake up so I can have another drink?" (NLT)

Isaiah 28:1 {A Message about Samaria--} Destruction is certain for the city of Samaria-- the pride and joy of the drunkards of Israel! It sits in a rich valley, but its glorious beauty will suddenly disappear. Destruction is certain for that city-- the pride of a people brought low by wine. (NLT)

Isaiah 28:7 Now, however, Israel is being led by drunks! The priests and prophets reel and stagger from beer and wine. They make stupid mistakes as they carry out their responsibilities. (NLT)

God's charge against Israel

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. (NAU)

Hosea 4:11 "Alcohol and prostitution have robbed my people of their brains. (NLT)
